To find a good movie, you may need to do a little detective work. That's where sites like IMDb come in handy. But even if you know exactly which movie you want to watch, it's not always easy to find online. That's where 13by1 comes in - it offers 13 movies for download each day at 720p resolution or higher, and is just as hard for other websites to outdo as IMDb is as the go-to source for movie information. The site was founded in August 2010 by Italian students Lorenzo Zagami and Matteo Talarico. Talarico joked that 13by1 has always been “a little bit geeky,” but it's actually grown into an incredibly popular destination for movie-lovers (it currently boasts more than 50,000 daily visitors). They've even expanded to offer the same service to music lovers, with what they call “13by1 Music.” Sitting in front of these posters one might feel like entering the wild world of the movie-making industry - the projection room of a film studio. The furniture is all retro, the lighting is low, and the rows of posters are like an invitation to an extravagant party. Then you listen to what's playing. Suddenly there's Majorettes (the Japanese version), the theme song from the James Bond movie Goldfinger (in Italian) and The Doors' "Light My Fire" (in German). For film buffs, this might sound like paradise. But while 13by1 might be devoted to movies, it's also a serious business, at least by Internet standards. Just like any other Web-based project it takes money to run. Contributed by Lorenzo Zagami, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Scientist They're not collecting any data. We don't download any ads aside from our own display ads, and we do not track users. The company has created a kind of “movie room” within the website to serve as a virtual film archive, available for viewing by visitors upon registration. That way they can browse through movie posters and trailers without having to download anything. The site also contains its own rich trove of movie-related links and other material to keep visitors enticed, including “13by1 Movie Awards,” for which visitors can vote on their favorite movies.
