The film is a science fiction adventure directed by Christopher Nolan and written by his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Featuring a cast led by Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, Interstellar tells the story of humanity's voyage to find a new home in a distant galaxy. The film was produced and distributed by Warner Bros., with Paramount Pictures handling the international release outside of North America. All these people were sent to outer space when Earth became uninhabitable following dust storms that destroyed vegetation and polluted the planet's atmosphere with high levels of CO2. The astronauts were forced to be marooned on a planet far from Earth, with no way to return home. Five years later, the crew's only contact with Earth is a video message left by mission leader Cooper (McConaughey). The crew has now scattered across the vast expanse of space. Cooper's marriage to Amelia Brand (Hathaway) has disintegrated, and he is now alone because his two fellow astronauts have abandoned him. While searching for his missing crewmates, Cooper finds himself at odds with his own mentor, Dr. Mann (Michael Caine), after finding evidence that Mann had been lying about the situation on Earth before all contact was lost. Cooper is finally reunited with Brand and they, together with Dr. Doyle (Wes Bentley) and Romilly (David Gyasi), decide to return to Earth using the NASA craft that took them into space. The group enters a wormhole referred to as "The Tesseract" and emerge near Saturn, where they find an Earth-like planet that they name Miller's Planet. While exploring this new planet, Cooper realizes that it would be possible to preserve human life there. Dr. Mann reveals himself as the former NASA head who stayed behind on Earth, choosing not to enter the wormhole because he was unable to bear the thought of leaving his family behind. After a creative disagreement, Doyle and Romilly leave the group to explore another planet elsewhere in the system. Brand leaves with her daughter to live on Miller's Planet, while Cooper stays behind on Saturn with Mann and Dr. McAdam (John Lithgow), a computer scientist who has been monitoring them from the NASA craft they left on. As they begin their seemingly final voyage back to Earth, Cooper learns from Mann that there is no life-support system on Earth capable of sustaining human life for more than a few months, so there is no hope of making it home alive. Mann also warns Cooper that if they attempt to send a signal, it will be received by the beings who destroyed Earth, and that the beings will undoubtedly follow the transmission to its source. While Miller's Planet is shown to be a lush paradise, it is also revealed that the gravitational forces of Miller's Planet are too great for humans to safely land there. On McAdam's advice, Cooper steers his shuttle into a collision course with a black hole in an attempt to use its powerful gravity as a slingshot that will propel the craft back towards Miller's Planet. The plan succeeds and Cooper is knocked unconscious as he passes through the black hole. He wakes up after passing through the other side of it and sees his shuttle still intact. cfa1e77820
